Göreme sits at the centre of Cappadocia's most famous landscape, a maze of valleys, rock pinnacles and cave dwellings shaped by ancient volcanic eruptions and erosion. Hundreds of balloons often rise above it at dawn, and the village is packed with cave hotels, terrace restaurants and tour offices. Arriving through Kayseri, travellers reach it by road across the Anatolian plateau.
